Torre Vigliena

The Vigliena Tower or Torre del Bracello is a coastal defence tower in the province of Ragusa on the Mediterranean coast. It was built between 1595 and 1607 at the end of the Braccio della Colombara, in the territory of Punta Braccetto, a seaside village between Ragusa and Santa Croce Camerina. It was armed with cannons and inside there were two soldiers and a corporal who commanded.

The Nature Reserve Cava Club Integral is located between Punta Braccetto and Scoglitti. The reserve consists of a pine forest, and the small bay that is there first, it winds gently down to the sandy beach from the hill located between Cozzo Campisi and Passo Marinaro and is crossed by two streams (the Rifriscolaro and Oani) that with their waters form a large area of reeds.
The oasis of Cava Club covers an area of about 156 hectares and is an important habitat in the province of Ragusa, is home to tree species of various types including Eucalyptus, Cupressus sempervirens (cypress), Quercus Ilex (holm oak) and Quercus Coccifera (Oak spinosa).
In this area it is also situated some necropolis (V - II a.c.) relevant to the archaeological site of Kamarina.

Cathedral San Giorgio - Modica

Place on top of a picturesque staircase of 260 steps, the Cathedral of St. George, as well as being the symbol of the city of Modica, is also considered by many the symbol of the Baroque in Sicily. This monumental church is located in the city area that connects the lower part with the lower part and is a feast for the eyes, both outside and inside.

Its origins date back to 1150, when a papal bull the church was placed under the protection of the Monastery of Mileto in Calabria. But little remains of that first building. The famous home of the most famous Commissioner of Italy, now a place of pilgrimage for many tourists, is located in Punta Secca of the municipality of Santa Croce Camerina (Rg), just 3 km from our hotel and reached by bicycle. The house is in the square before the Scalambri Tower built in the late sixteenth century to defend the stronghold of the Bellomo family of Syracuse. We are on the coast of the province of Ragusa.
A curiosity to know about this building is that it was originally intended as a storehouse for the desalination of sardines and, in 1904, became a dwelling.
The village of Punta Secca is home to 132 residents, is small and quiet, and is 5.7 km from Santa Croce Camerina

The furnace Penna - Sampieri

Fornace Penna was built between 1909 and 1912 by the engineer Ignatius Emmolo, who graduated in mathematics in Catania and in civil engineering in Naples in 1895. By creating the company with the support of Baron William Pen, he chose the site "Punta Pisciotto" close to the sea, for the following reasons:
the waters are deep enough to allow the docking of ships [1],
the presence of the railway,
the nearby clay pit, about 200 meters, for the raw material,
the availability of abundant water from a local karst spring.
The factory produced bricks that were exported to many Mediterranean countries: much of Tripoli (Libya) after the 1911 war was built with bricks of "Pisciotto". He worked from six in the morning until dusk, from May to September; with the first rains the Fornace Penna was closed. They have found employment a hundred workers aged between 16 and 18 years. The termination of an establishment occurred during the night of January 26, 1924, due to an arson that destroyed it in a few hours. .
The furnace was Hoffmann type and consisted of sixteen rooms arranged in a ring long and five meters wide three thirty each. The forced draft was exercised from a chimney 41 meters high and the plant was 86 meters long. In the east (32 long and 25 meters wide) was destined to machinery. The engine room housed two sprayers hammer; a kneader to large propellers, supplied by, bucket elevators, two laminators with spinnerets for the production of crackers, hard bricks and tiles curved or bent tiles, a revolver press for the production of roof tiles to Marseilles, a press for the production of tiles ridge. There was also a small compartment for the manufacture of molds, roofing tiles and sliding rollers for the carriages of the dies.

The Watermill "Cavallo d'Ispica", original peasant jewel of the eighteenth century, is located in the north of the archaeological site of Cava d'Ispica valley, a few kilometers from the Baroque ibleo of Modica, the birthplace of the poet Quasimodo and famous for the famous chocolate.

In both cases, the visitor is guided through a thematic route that develops in two stages: the Museum and the Mill.
The museum includes the caves and environments rich in various kits and tools of the time, that reconstruct perfectly the rural and domestic life of the millers family.
The mill, however, combines the knowledge and ingenuity art peasant charm and the tranquility of the place.
